The Ugly
I am going to switch up the order so my Gator-only readers can check out early. I was blessed to avoid watching the tragedy that was occurring in the Swamp this past Saturday, but I received enough texts to put the plays together myself. It wasn't too hard to do because I just envisioned a lot of fumbles, mis-directed snaps, and Jeff Demps. After seeing Sportscenter I concluded that I put together a perfect picture. I will contribute this to first game jitters and move on. I haven't seen football that sloppy since the first practice of the Little Giants (Great movie by the way). The Gators don't have any more chances to iron out the details because USF is not exactly Miami (OH)'s little brother. They may not be a BCS contender right now, but they are capable of taking advantage of turnovers. It was clear by this weeks decline in the polls that the voters aren't ranking past accomplishments. So please boys....Git 'er Done!!!!
The Bad
Now there were a lot of teams worthy of this title, but the winner was the LSU Tigers. I know Ole Miss loss to a Division I-AA Jacksonville State at the hands of a freshman quarterback, but let me explain my position. The University of North Carolina came to Atlanta with barely enough players to dress for the game. Almost the entire secondary was 2nd team, but they somehow managed to walk out of the Georgia Dome with a "We should have won that" attitude. The LSU tigers allowed UNC to come back from 20 down to be denied by a questionable pass interference no-call at the goal line. We all know that UNC would have been a worthy opponent if they didn't enter the game without 13 of their starters. So because the Tigers had to hold on to beat a second string team, they are looking pretty bad right now. The Good
Not now or ever will I be a bandwagon fan, but I will give credit where credit is due. There is one school that causes everyone to cringe by the mere mention of their name. So cover you eyes people because I am about to talk about......Boise State. Now Virginia tech did struggle in the running game all night, the o-line couldn't hold a little league defense, and they only suited up the QB for the game but given all that Boise still was able to show that they deserve a little little little bit of recognition. They had a balanced team with well executed plays. Their QB was very poised, and showed tremendous leadership on that final drive (stop with the Heisman talk though boys). Honestly I don't think we will truly now their strength until they play the big boys in the big games (without trick plays).Final Thoughts
One of the main lessons learned from this weekend was that the SEC looked very sloppy. There were a couple teams that got through the weekend with no problem, but sadly we had some that didn't make it out (moment of silence for Ole Miss). This overall was a very underwhelming football weekend, but that was expected. There is a lot coming up this Saturday, and my future blogs will incorporate a little NFL action. Feel free to leave suggestions on specific games you want covered.
